Last Sunday night’s WWE Royal Rumble PPV Event saw the in-ring return of WWE Hall of Famer “The Rated R Superstar” Edge after nine long years when he entered the 30-Man Royal Rumble Match in the 21st position as one of the surprise entrants.
Back in October 2019, it was reported by the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that “The Rated R Superstar” Edge had already negotiated a significant brand-new contract with the company by mentioning that negotiations have also been taking place with AEW. It was then reported by WrestleZone and Pro Wrestling Sheet that back in August of that same year, “The Rated R Superstar” Edge had began talking with both promotions after stating during a podcast that he could wrestle one more match.
At the time, AEW reportedly made a serious and significant offer to the WWE Hall of Famer to work behind-the-scenes as an agent or a producer and an in-ring talent for a handful of matches.
Up until last Sunday night, Edge has been denying reports on a possible WWE return, but he was reportedly in Pittsburgh in October of 2019, possibly to meet with WWE doctors. It was recently reported, via @Wrestlevotes, that Edge has signed a new three-year deal with WWE, reportedly worth significant money.
Edge’s new WWE deal reportedly has him participate in a few matches per year, and a number of WWE TV appearances. Edge is rumored to face Randy Orton at WrestleMania 36, due to what took place at this past Sunday night’s Royal Rumble and this past Monday night’s RAW. Edge will reportedly also be used as a special attraction talent.
It was also reported that prior to his return at this past Sunday’s Royal Rumble, Edge was medically cleared to compete and a wrestling ring was even sent to him by the WWE in North Carolina so he could train. Edge’s Royal Rumble return was reportedly kept a secret by the WWE as he was flown to Houston, Texas in a private plane and he was hidden until the Royal Rumble Match.
As of this writing, “The Rated R Superstar” has been added back to the official WWE roster page, but it has yet to be decided if he will be assigned to the Monday Night RAW brand or the Friday Night SmackDown brand, despite already making an appearance on RAW last night.
