Backstage News On CM Punk vs. Jon Moxley For AEW Dynamite

Last night’s AEW Dynamite saw CM Punk go up against Jon Moxley in a Title vs. Title Unification Match to crown the Undisputed AEW World Champion, with the match originally announced for the upcoming AEW All Out PPV Event, but due to the altercation between Punk and Moxley, the match was moved up to last night.

Fightful Select reports that Jon Moxley came up with the idea to move the title match to last night’s episode of AEW Dynamite and the AEW higher-ups were instantly on board with it with Punk “eventually” agreeing to it, but there is no word yet on if the change is connected to recent reports of backstage issues involving CM Punk, which he has since shot down. There were also reports that ideas were being thrown around during the days leading up to last night’s AEW Dynamite to increase ticket sales and to add buzz to last night’s show in Cleveland.

Jon Moxley ended up beating CM Punk to become the Undisputed AEW World Champion, but there is no word yet on if that was the original creative plans as the decision to move the match was not the original plans as well and plans were changed multiple times for AEW’s upcoming All Out Event. There were also reports that despite the match being moved to last night’s AEW Dynamite, the CM Punk vs. Moxley Match was still being discussed as the main event for All Out, but that has not been confirmed.
