Top AEW Star and professional wrestling legend Chris Jericho recently took part in another edition of his Saturday Night Special Youtube series, where he commented on the signing of Eddie Kingston to All Elite Wrestling.
This is what Chris Jericho said:
โI think itโs great that Eddie Kingston got signed. Iโm very, very excited for him.โ โI had never heard of him, I had never heard his name. I had maybe read his name but it didnโt really register. As a matter of fact, when Cody said it was Eddie Kingston, in the back of my head I was thinking Eddie Edwards. So, I didnโt really know him, and when I saw him, Iโm like, โThis guyโs promo is super intense, his match style was super intense.'โ
Jericho then talked about Eddie Kingston having a tough guy look, which is rare these days and it not being quite the same as it was back in the day. Jericho also talked about Eddie Kingston looking like a street fighter and not initially brought in to be signed, but cool for him to have his dreams come true and finally get the contract.
This is what Chris Jericho said:
โHe just looked like one of those guys that just has that vibe of being a tough guy. Which is rare โ to see a guy in wrestling that back in the day, everybody was like that.โ โEverybody had that tough look to them, but now, it isnโt quite the same. He looks like a street fighter. He looks like Santana and Ortiz. So, hearing his 18 year history and all the stuff heโs been through โ I donโt think we brought him in with the intention of signing him. But it sure was cool to see him kind of make his dreams come true and finally get that contract.โ
Jericho then talked about really being excited that Cody Rhodes and Tony Khan gave Matt Cardona (F.K.A. Zack Ryder in WWE) a shot as well as loving to work with him. Jericho also talked about telling Matt Cardona to get out of WWE about five to eight years ago, but him being very solid in the ring and very creative. Jericho also said that he just needs some confidence as well as a chance.
This is what Chris Jericho said:
โIโm going to tell you why I donโt think there are issues, in a bad way, for me. I told Matt Cardona like five years ago, maybe even more, eight years ago, โGet the hell out of WWEโ. There comes a point in time when you canโt just be a punching bag anymore and heโs far too good for that.โ โHe looks like a million bucks, he knows how to work, heโs very solid in the ring, heโs very creative. He just needs some confidence, he just needs a chance.โ
โAnd Iโm really excited that Cody and Tony decided to give him a shot, and I know I would love to work with him,โ he added. โI donโt want anymore of this โLong Island Iced Zโ bullsโt. Itโs gone. Itโs like the first night Hager was in AEW and they started chanting โwe the peopleโ, I said, โThatโs done. That was a bad idea from bad creative, and itโs the same with the โLong Island Iced Zโ. Itโs the former name, the former ZR, heโs dead and buried.โ
