Former WCW Announcer Tony Schiavone Turns Down WWE for AEW

According to a report from PWInsider, former WCW announcer Tony Schiavone will be joining All Elite Wrestling. As recently as last Wednesday WWE was looking to add the former voice of WCW. However, Thursday he chose to go with AEW.

Schiavone is currently with MLW and will continue in his role as their play-by-play commentator, the report stats. It did not say when his deal with MLW will end or if he will be exclusive to All Elite Wrestling.

Tony has appeared in All Elite Wrestling videos on their YouTube channel. This caused MLW to release a statement to Figure Four Online in July: “Unless AEW elects to reach out, Tony Schiavone cannot proceed with AEW or any other company doing anything. I was unaware of him doing the digital stuff until I read it in this week’s Observer,” the statement stated.

It is still unclear what role Tony will play with AEW, who currently has an on-air broadcast team of Jim Ross, Excalibur, and Alex Marvez. No official word from AEW yet.

You can see Schiavone appear in this AEW video.
