SmackDown last Friday saw Chad Gable and Otis of the Alpha Academy get drafted from the blue brand to the red brand, but ever since the decision was made to repackage him as “Shorty G” back in 2019 after WWE disbanded American Alpha, his previous tag team with Jason Jordan, Gable hasn’t really found much momentum on the WWE main roster.
Several WWE Stars, including former WWE Star and current AEW Star Bryan Danielson had pitched to do a storyline with Gable, but it was turned down as the feeling backstage is that Gable’s in-ring work is on the level of somebody like WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle.
Dave Meltzer noted on a recent edition of the Wrestling Observer Radio Program that there are friends of Chad Gable that want him to leave WWE and sign with AEW as they feel he is underutilized and he is under appreciated in the WWE and he would be a perfect fit for AEW.
This is what Dave Meltzer said:
“Chad’s always awesome. He’s always awesome. A lot of people – I know a lot of his friends want him to go to AEW and I don’t know what the contract situation is for him but he’s been so misused or buried or whatever that it’s almost like you bring him – but I think he would be absolutely phenomenal in AEW. He’s phenomenal now.”
Chad Gable made his pro wrestling debut in 2013 and was heavily pushed during his days in NXT as part of American Alpha with Jason Jordan. Gable is a one-time NXT Tag Team Champion, one-time RAW Tag Team Champion and one-time SmackDown Tag Team Champion. There is no word yet on when Gable’s WWE contract is up, but updates will be provided once it has been made available.
