Jon Moxley Retains IWGP United States Title Against KENTA

Last Friday night’s special episode of NJPW Strong saw top AEW Star and IWGP U.S. Champion Jon Moxley successfully retain his IWGP U.S. Title against top NJPW Star KENTA. The highly-anticipated match saw KENTA dominate in the early parts and even hit his DDT on the AEW Star on a briefcase as well as send Moxley through a table with a driving elbow. Moxley would eventually defeat KENTA by nailing him with a DDT, followed by his Death Rider finishing move.

Moxley initially won the IWGP United States Title in his in-ring debut match for NJPW back in June of 2019. The AEW Star was then forced to relinquish the IWGP U.S. Title due to travel issues, but Moxley would regain it by defeating Lance Archer at Wrestle Kingdom 14. Prior to Moxley not being able to go to NJPW due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the AEW Star successfully defended his IWGP United States Title against Juice Robinson and Minoru Suzuki.

Jon Moxley now has a chance to become a double champion when he takes on the AEW World Champion Kenny Omega for Omega’s AEW World Championship in an Exploding Barbed Wire Deathmatch at the Revolution PPV on March 7th.
