Jon Moxley Secures Top Position in AEW Continental Classic on Dynamite

AEW’s ‘Winter Is Coming’ episode of Dynamite delivered an intense lineup featuring crucial Continental Classic matches. The Blackpool Combat Club’s Jon Moxley seized a contentious victory over Swerve Strickland, while across the roster, tensions boiled over, leading to unexpected alliances and brutal attacks.

The event, broadcast live from the College Park Center in Arlington, TX, set the stage for various storylines to unfold, as evident from the show’s opening with Samoa Joe demanding answers regarding an attack on MJF. His confrontation with Hangman Adam Page quickly escalated, entangling Roderick Strong and The Kingdom in a dramatic narrative of conspiracy and accusations.

Hangman Adam Page found himself no time to recover as he was blindsided by Roderick Strong during an intense match, where Page demonstrated resilience with stiff chops and an impressive array of offense including a popup powerbomb and a moonsault from the ring post. Despite The Kingdom’s interference, Page earned a comeback win with his lethal Dead Eye.

The Continental Classic Blue League saw Andrade El Idolo claim a victory over House of Black’s Brody King. In a match that had fans chanting in awe, Andrade overcame King’s power, securing three pivotal points by spiking Brody’s head and connecting with a hammerlock DDT.

Backstage, the wrestling legacy of the Von Erich family intersected with the quirk of Danhausen, Orange Cassidy, and Trent. A proposition for a tag match on Rampage led to an agreement that’ll see Marshall and Ross Von Erich join forces with Orange Cassidy, creating an eclectic mix of talent for the upcoming bout.

A rare appearance from ‘The Golden Jets’ tag team, Kenny Omega & Chris Jericho, escalated into a heated exchange with AEW World Tag Team Champions Ricky Starks and Big Bill. After a barrage of insults and boasts, a tag team title showdown for December 30th at ‘Worlds End’ was made official, setting the stage for what promises to be a monumental clash.

Meanwhile, the women’s division showcased ferocity with Ruby Soho facing off against Riho. AEW Women’s World Champion, Toni Storm, observed from commentary as Riho secured a win with a running knee strike following a high-flying, fast-paced encounter.

In further Continental Classic Gold League action, LFI’s Rush submitted Jay Lethal, demonstrating his resolve and technique. Bullet Club Gold’s Jay White, through cunning and precise attacks, defeated Mark Briscoe, further upping the stakes in the competitive league.

The main event was a showcase of endurance and will, as Jon Moxley and Swerve Strickland clashed head-on. In an epic battle of attrition, Moxley managed to grasp victory by outsmarting Strickland with a roll through cradle, even allegedly utilizing the championship belt to secure extra leverage. This victory propelled Moxley to the top of the points table, solidifying his dominant position in the Classic.

Post-match, a shocking scene unfolded as Hangman Adam Page found himself outnumbered and attacked by four masked assailants led by a figure wearing a Devil mask, culminating in Page being brutally powerbombed through a car windshield. The identity of the masked individuals remains a mystery, leaving fans to speculate on the motivations behind this heinous act.
