As previously reported, top NJPW Star KENTA of Bullet Club became the #1 Contender to the IWGP United States Title, currently held by top AEW Star Jon Moxley a number of months ago, and since then he has been calling Moxley out constantly. Following Moxley’s recent in-ring return, KENTA would call Moxley out once again.
Unfortunately for KENTA, Moxley was not allowed to travel to Japan for the time being as the Japanese government has currently suspended any foreigners from entering Japan as a way to slowdown the spread of COVID-19.
At NJPW’s recent Strong Event, IWGP United States Champion, who is also a top star in AEW, Jon Moxley made a surprise appearance at the end of the show and confronted top NJPW Star KENTA. Moxley made his appearance following the main event match between Lio Rush and El Phantasmo. Moxley made his way down to the ring with his IWGP United States Title and laid Hikuleo and El Phantasmo out with his belt.
KENTA and Moxley then came to blows in the middle of the ring, with KENTA trying to nail Jon with the GTS. Moxley then countered KENTA and hit him with his Death Rider DDT finishing move. The NJPW Strong Event then ended with the IWGP United States Champion Jon Moxley cutting a promo and vowing to battle KENTA in Tokyo “one of these days” without providing a specific place or time.
According to NJPW, IWGP U.S. Champion Jon Moxley will be defending his IWGP U.S. Championship against KENTA on February 26th at NJPW New Beginning USA 2021. The promotion also announced a number of other main event matchups for NJPW New Beginning USA 2021 and confirmed that the February 19th and February 26th editions of NJPW Strong will be NJPW New Beginning USA episodes.
Top AEW Star Jon Moxley will reportedly also appear on NJPW Strong’s Road to The New Beginning USA on Friday to further promote the match. NJPW reportedly films the episodes in California and airs weekly on NJPW World.
