As we saw during the main event of last Wednesday night’s “Winter Is Coming” episode of Dynamite, Don Callis, Omega’s close personal friend, interfered in the match and it resulted in Omega defeating Jon Moxley to become the brand-new AEW World Champion.
Callis then noted in an interview with Alex Marvez to tune in to this week’s IMPACT Wrestling as we will see the new AEW World Champion Kenny Omega make an appearance on the show with Don Callis.
AEW World Champion Kenny Omega did made an appearance on this week’s episode of IMPACT Wrestling with his manager and close personal friend, Don Callis, to speak with color commentator Josh Mathews about his huge AEW World Title win and what his future holds.
The interview began with Josh Matthews asking how long this AEW and IMPACT alliance was in the works. Callis said that it all began when he met Kenny Omega, which was when he was 10 years old through his uncle the Golden Sheik, who took Callis under his wing when he was just starting out in the wrestling business. Callis then said he made it his mission to be in the corner of Kenny Omega from that point, including Omega’s world championship reigns in NJPW, which means that this idea has been in the works for nearly 27 years.
Josh Mathews then asked Omega his explanation on why he decided to use a microphone to cheap shot Jon Moxley to win and told him that it’s something he wouldn’t do during his and Jon Moxley’s gentlemen’s agreement. Kenny Omega said, “When you involve family when you lay your hands on the invisible hand – what do you expect me to do?”
Omega then explained the reason he made his way to IMPACT. Kenny Omega said that growing up he was an avid collector of comic books. But one day, he just couldn’t get the rarest comic books in the world, so he decided to drop that hobby.
Omega then said that now he collects other world championships from other promotions, possibly including IMPACT. He also added that he loves to travel, and when he isn’t tied up defending his AEW World Title, he might be eyeing other titles and its champions.
Prior to the interview ending, Omega and Callis announced that they have a big announcement that they promise to deliver on tonight’s AEW Dynamite. Kenny Omega would then end the interview with, “goodbye and goodnight. bang!”
