During last night’s episode of AEW Dynamite, Lio Rush appeared via video vignette and made a colossal announcement that he has signed with the company. Rush also said in his promo that he spoke with Tony Khan and he is officially in AEW. Rush then said that he is portraying himself as a big business that will be bringing his talents to the company.
Rush made his All Elite Wrestling debut at this past May’s Double Or Nothing PPV, when he competed in the Casino Battle Royale as the joker wild card, but Rush unfortunately suffered a shoulder injury in the match.
Lio was reportedly not under contract with AEW at the time, but he did have a handshake deal with AEW President and CEO Tony Khan as he was still under contract with NJPW, though both wrestling companies currently have an existing working relationship. Dave Meltzer reported on a recent Wrestling Observer Radio Program that NJPW gave Lio Rush permission to sign with AEW, but that they still set a priority on important dates such as shows and appearances.
Shortly after Lio Rush’s appearance for AEW, he announced that he will be retiring from pro wrestling and the reason he gave is due to the injury he suffered at Double Or Nothing, but it appears that Lio Rush has now been cleared to compete and that he will be back in in-ring action until his deal is up.
As previously reported, AEW President Tony Khan took to his Twitter and made a huge announcement that he has seen the fans talking about Lio Rush on social media and coincidentally, Khan has been talking to Rush as well about possibly making his return to AEW in the near future.
