Former AEW World Trios Champions Death Triangle (PAC, Penta El Zero Miedo and Rey Fenix) and reigning AEW World Trios Champions The Elite (Kenny Omega, Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson) faced each other for the very first time for the AEW World Trios Titles at the Full Gear PPV Event and ended up with Death Triangle coming out of the matchup with the huge win. The two teams were then involved in a Best Of 7 series that played out over the past number of weeks with Escalera De La Muerte (Ladder Match) taking place during last week’s episode of AEW Dynamite, which was the 7th and final match and saw The Elite walk out of the match as the brand-new AEW World Trios Champions.
Dave Meltzer revealed on a recent edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the seventh match almost did not happen as one of the wrestlers in the match had visa issues and they didn’t know until Tuesday if the seventh match would take place until the issue was cleared up on that very same day.
This is what Dave Meltzer said:
“The issue was that one of the wrestlers in the match had a visa issue, and they didn’t know until Tuesday night if the Game Seven match would take place. But the issue was cleared up on Tuesday.”
Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez also discussed the issue on a recent Wrestling Observer Radio Program, which you can check out below:
Bryan Alvarez said: “Word got out. There was a visa issue in match 7 of the best of seven. It almost didn’t take place. It didn’t get figured out until late in the day.”
Dave Meltzer responded: “I thought Tuesday night. Late Tuesday night, maybe.”
Bryan Alvarez added: “It was not until late that it all got figured out.”
Dave Meltzer said: “Yeah, they didn’t know if they would be able to do that match or delay it after all that advertising.”
