Tony Khan Reveals “The Captain” Shawn Dean Has Joined AEW

AEW President and CEO Tony Khan recently took to his Twitter and thanked “The Captain” Shawn Dean for his service to the United States and for everything he has done for the promotion to help them thrive through the pandemic. Khan then told Shawn Dean that his consistent hard work as well as positivity + reliability has made him so valuable to AEW. The AEW President then officially welcomed “The Captain” Shawn Dean to AEW.

Shawn Dean, who is a veteran in the U.S. Navy, started training for pro wrestling back in 2017. Shawn Dean then wrestled for WWA4 before working on the indie scene with promotions such as EVOLVE.

He made his AEW debut on an episode of Dark back in March 2020, losing to Shawn Spears. Dean then had his AEW Dynamite debut on the June 3rd, 2020 episode, losing to Brian Cage.

Since making his AEW debut back in March 2020, Dean has been a regular on AEW Dark, but it looks like he has not won a match yet. Shawn Dean has currently been placed in a tag team with Carlie Bravo, and they have recently lost their AEW Dark matches to Cezar Bononi and Peter Avalon, The Varsity Blondes, and TH2.

This latest signing reportedly comes from AEW using more independent wrestlers on Dark and a star such as Shawn Dean making a good impression on AEW officials, most especially Tony Khan.
