Tony Khan Says Forbidden Door Will Feature Big Dream Matches

It has been teased for months that AEW President and CEO Tony Khan will be making a huge announcement during last week’s episode of AEW Dynamite. It would then be rumored and speculated that Khan’s “huge announcement” will be regarding a joint AEW and NJPW Supershow. A segment would take place during AEW Dynamite last week, where Tony Khan made his way out and introduced NJPW President Takami Ohbari, but as they were about to make the huge announcement, they were interrupted by AEW Star Adam Cole and top NJPW Star “Switchblade” Jay White, who said that Forbidden Door is all about The Undisputed Elite and The Bullet Club.

AEW President Tony Khan appeared on the “Superstar Crossover with Josh Martinez” podcast prior to the April 27 episode of AEW Dynamite to talk about the Owen Hart Foundation Men’s and Women’s Tournaments and how he can’t reveal the brackets until all the participants have qualified as well as how excited he is for the tournament, which is set to begin on May 11th.

This is what Tony Khan said:

“The bracket, I’m not gonna be able to reveal until everybody has qualified. Or at least everybody that is going to be announced has qualified.” “We’ll have this great bracket when we come back to New York on May 11 at the UBS Arena on Long Island. We had a great crowd there last time, we’re gonna have a great crowd on Long Island again, and it’s going to be a great time May 11th. I’m excited about kicking off the Owen Hart Cup Tournament with some huge matches.”

Tony Khan also talked about how the AEW/NJPW Forbidden Door Event is something that he as well as the top officials from NJPW has been discussing about for quite some time and how they have built a great relationship with NJPW.

This is what Tony Khan said:

“It’s something that we’d talked about for a long time.” “Now, with international travel opening up, it’s possible. We’ve, I think, built a great relationship between AEW and New Japan Pro-Wrestling.”

Tony Khan then talked about how he will be working closely with Gedo to put the Forbidden Door lineup together and to book dream matches that fans thought they would never see.

This is what Tony Khan said:

“I certainly am going to work closely with Gedo in putting this card together.” “The two of us will have to decide who we can send from our respective companies, what the matches are gonna be, and we’ll make the best matches we can for the pro wrestling fans. They’re gonna be dream matches that people thought they’d never get to see.”

AEW/NJPW’s Forbidden Door Event is set to take place on Sunday, June 26 from inside the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.
