Update On CM Punk’s Surgery And Recovery From Injury

At the AEW Double Or Nothing PPV Event, CM Punk got the biggest win of his entire AEW career, when he defeated “Hangman” Adam Page to become the brand-new AEW World Champion, but just days after his huge victory, The Best In The World made an appearance on an episode of AEW Rampage and delivered some sad and heart-wrenching news.

According to CM Punk, he has suffered an injury that requires surgery and due to that, he will be out of in-ring action for quite some time. CM Punk also revealed that his situation is just a bump in the road, but he didn’t want to hold up the company and was ready to relinquish the title. Punk then said that AEW President and CEO Tony Khan told him that he does not need to relinquish the AEW World Title before promising the fans that he will come back bigger, faster, stronger and hungrier than ever.

Following CM Punk’s heart-wrenching news, it was announced that he has not relinquished his title but an Interim AEW World Champion will be crowned at the Forbidden Door PPV Event later this month, which began with a Casino Battle Royale in the opening match of this past Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite episode. Kyle O’Reilly came out of the Casino Battle Royale as the winner and he went up against Jon Moxley in the main event of AEW Dynamite. Moxley would then walk out of the main event as the winner to advance to Forbidden Door to face either Hiroshi Tanahashi or Hirooki Goto, who are set to face each other at this Sunday’s NJPW Dominion Event.

Commentary announced during last Wednesday’s episode of AEW Dynamite that CM Punk underwent lower leg surgery earlier in the day in Los Angeles and that the surgery was a success. Commentary also said CM Punk is on his way to recovery, but no timeframe was provided as to when CM Punk will be returning to AEW TV.

CM Punk didn’t reveal the severity of his injury as well as how long he will be out of action, but as soon as updates are available, it will be provided. Punk was noticeably limping during a segment with MJF two weeks ago on AEW Dynamite and it is believed that he suffered the injury during a Six-Man Tag Team Match earlier in the evening, when Punk and FTR faced and defeated Max Caster and The Gunn Club. Punk was also limping during last week’s AEW Rampage, when he made his way down to the ring to reveal the unfortunate news. CM Punk is set to face the Interim AEW World Champion in a Unification Match at a later date, when Punk has been medically cleared to return from his injury.
