Update On Jeff Cobb’s AEW Status, Plans As A Free Agent

As previously reported, despite Cobb’s appearance on last Wednesday night’s episode of AEW Dynamite, he has yet to sign a contract with AEW and is currently working as a free agent. It was also reported that Jeff Cobb’s appearance on Dynamite doesn’t mean that AEW now has a working relationship with either ROH or NJPW. Jeff Cobb was directly booked by AEW as he is reportedly free to work in any promotion he chooses to.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Cobb’s agreement with AEW only permits him to work in a program with Jon Moxley. A deal was reportedly offered to Cobb by AEW, but he didn’t agree to it as he plans to work for NJPW as much as he currently can. AEW Executive Vice President “The American Nightmare” Cody has reportedly wanted to sign Cobb to a full-time deal with AEW since Cobb’s ROH contract expired this past January 1st.

Cobb made his debut with AEW last Wednesday night when he made his way down to the ring as AEW World Champion Chris Jericho called him out. Cobb would then nail Moxley with his Tour of the Islands finisher. Jeff Cobb would then celebrate with the Inner Circle and the show would then come to a close. The storyline is that he was hired by AEW World Champion Chris Jericho as a “bounty hunter” and a “mercenary” to take Jon Moxley out ahead of Jericho and Moxley’s Match at Revolution.
