The main event of All Elite Wrestling’s Full Gear PPV saw MJF defeat Jon Moxley to become the new AEW World Champion, thanks to an assist from William Regal, who handed MJF his gold brass knuckles to use against The Blackpool Combat Club’s Jon Moxley. An episode of AEW Dynamite then saw the new AEW World Champion MJF address the fans and brutally attack William Regal with the same brass knuckles as a way to write him off of AEW TV as it was rumored that Regal was on his way out of the company and that he will return to the WWE soon.
AEW President and CEO Tony Khan revealed several weeks back that Regal was indeed leaving the company and asked him to not renew his deal so he could return to WWE to be in NXT with his son, who competes as Charles Dempsey. Regal even issued a statement on his exit from All Elite Wrestling and he thanked every single person he was able to work with.
PWInsider.com previously reported that Regal was finalizing his deal with the WWE and he was expected to officially begin during the first week of January, where he will be working in a behind-the-scenes capacity as a Vice President and the company could also use him in a number of other ways such as for WarGames announcements if he does appear on WWE TV again. A recent report from PWInsider.com noted he has already made his return to the WWE, which happened last January 4th.
Prior to being released by the WWE last January, William Regal worked as the General Manger of NXT as well as a talent scout for the company and he was even considered to be WWE Chief Content Officer and Head of Creative Triple H’s right-hand man while running NXT creative.
