Backstage News On Long-Term Plans WWE Has For Ronda Rousey

Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez had a conversation on a recent edition of the Wrestling Observer Radio Program about the long-term plans the WWE has for former WWE RAW and SmackDown Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey. It was discussed that the idea is for Rousey to be a heel and be a top Star just like she was 2 years ago, but she is currently seen as a babyface, especially due to the segment she had with WWE official Adam Pearce on WWE SmackDown this past Friday night.

Meltzer also noted that the Google Trend numbers show Rousey being below Belair and WWE is working to elevate Rousey to the status she had a couple of years ago, which was on the level of Brock Lesnar as their plan is for her to be a mega star and if she ends up being a babyface, then that would be fine. Meltzer then said the plan right now is for Becky Lynch to battle Ronda Rousey at WWE WrestleMania 39 next year, but plans could still change depending on the reaction Rousey receives from the crowd.

This is what Dave Meltzer said:

“No the idea is to get her to be a heel.” “The idea is to get her to be a heel. Here’s the thing. The idea for Ronda Rousey actually is to get her to be what she was before which is to break out of the pack, mainline woman Superstar. Not just a woman on the roster who is below [Bianca] Belair and all that, which she kind of was becoming.”

“They want to get her back to ‘special attraction, big Brock Lesnar star.’ So that’s the goal of what they’re doing right now. The belief was that at the end, because she’s Liv Morgan, [Ronda] ends up as a heel. What they’re doing now isn’t necessarily to make her a heel, it’s to make her a big big star. If she ends up being a babyface from this, that’s fine too.”
