Dominik Mysterio Speaks About His WrestleMania 39 Match With Rey Mysterio

Dominik Mysterio has made a name for himself in the wrestling circuit since coming to the company in SummerSlam 2020. The WWE superstar wrestled his father, the great luchador, Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania 39.

In an interview with Metro UK, Dominik shared what he did on the night following his match with his legendary father. It was a match that both had reservations about before it began, but as time went by, things changed and they pulled off one of the most exciting storylines in the business.

We have seen a father son story in the past, but it involved The McMahons. This was the first time when a father son duo outside of the McMahon’s were in a match and to say that they delivered a classic would be an understatement.

After the match, I got back to my hotel room – we were in LA so there were food vendors outside our hotel. I think it was like 2 in the morning, and it was just me and my best friend, my buddy Daniel. I texted him, I was like, ‘Hey, I’m gonna go get some food, I’m not too tired,’ because my adrenaline, I think, was still going. It was me and him, we walked out there, we got some hot dogs. I was like, ‘Dude… I just wrestled my dad at WrestleMania. This is pretty surreal!’ I was like, ‘Damn, and I beat his ass!’. I don’t think he wanted to do it, and I know there was a time that I didn’t wanna do it either, but then things change, Judgment Day happened, and I kinda came to the realization that if I wanted to live up to the Mysterio name, or pass the Mysterio name, or even hold onto the Mysterio name and take it and run with it, I had to get through him.

The build up was amazing and the fans were involved in the overall presentation of this feud. It involves Dominik visiting his family, and attacking his ‘Deadbeat Dad’ while some other segments involved other aspects that made the storyline worth the time. Speaking about what transpired on the Grandest Stage of them All, Dominik Mysterio said that he couldn’t believe that he wrestled his father.
