The Usos (Jey Uso and Jimmy Uso), who is one of the greatest, if not the greatest tag team in company history, won the SmackDown Tag Team Championships from Rey Mysterio and Dominik Mysterio in July 2022 during the Money in the Bank Kickoff Show and the RAW Tag Team Championships from RK-Bro (Randy Orton and Matt Riddle) on the May 20 episode of WWE Friday Night SmackDown to become the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions.
Jey Uso and Jimmy Uso have since been defending their Undisputed WWE Tag Team Titles against a number of different opponents, but WWE recently announced that The Usos will be defending their RAW Tag Team Titles against The Judgment Day’s Dominik Mysterio and Damian Priest on tonight’s 30th anniversary of RAW and this caught the WWE Universe off guard as The Usos usually defend the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Titles instead of just the RAW or SmackDown Tag Team Titles.
Dave Meltzer noted on a recent Wrestling Observer Newsletter that having The Usos defend their titles separately is a Paul “Triple H” Levesque call as even though Jey and Jimmy Uso are the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions, the RAW and SmackDown Tag Team Titles are two different set of belts and it makes the WWE Universe think that a certain tag team will defeat The Usos for either their RAW or SmackDown Tag Team Championships.
This is what Dave Meltzer said:
“The idea right now on the tag team front is that there are two sets of belts. The Usos are champions, but the Raw and Smackdown belts are different. This is a new Paul Levesque move and it does allow the Usos to lose one set of belts and keep the other. It was explained to me that the hope is it makes fans think it’s more likely somebody beats them for one set of belts.”
