Surprise Plans For Kevin Owens Nixed Due To Injury

As previously reported, top WWE Star Kevin Owens suffered an MCL sprain when he took on Austin Theory in a Singles Match during last Sunday night’s WWE Sunday Stunner Event from the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, Wisconsin. The injury took place when the former WWE United States and Universal Champion came down from the turnbuckle and landed hard on his knee. The former WWE United States Champion then immediately clutched his knee as the referee checked on him. Kevin Owens then got back up, hit Theory with a Stunner and got the victory. Owens was then helped to the backstage area by the referee and he was seen limping.

Dave Meltzer mentioned on a recent edition of the Wrestling Observer Radio Program that the WWE had a surprise plan for Owens to be added to the Men’s WarGames Match, where he would be placed on the team with The Brawling Brutes and Drew McIntyre to face The Bloodline, but Owens having an MCL sprain will cost him an opportunity to be a part of that match. Dave Meltzer also noted that Owens being added to the match wasn’t 100% confirmed, but it was definitely talked about.

This is what Dave Meltzer said:

“I only heard he has a sprained MCL, but he was going to get it examined…..I believe he was going to be in the WarGames match. That’s not 100% confirmed, but it is certainly the talk, and he was supposed to be in something as a surprise. So it all adds up that it would be the WarGames match…If that was the case, this could cost him that.”

During this past Friday night’s episode of WWE SmackDown, WWE setup the Men’s WarGames Match at Survivor Series between The Bloodline’s Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns, Sami Zayn, Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions The Usos and Solo Sikoa and The Brawling Brutes (Sheamus, Butch and Ridge Holland) and Drew McIntyre as well as a fifth partner, when these men were involved in a brawl.
