The Rock Leaves The Door Open To Compete At WrestleMania 40

WWE will be holding their WrestleMania 39 Premium Live Event on Saturday, April 1 and Sunday, April 2 from SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California and the company is looking to stack their card and make it the biggest WrestleMania of all time based on recent reports of who the promotion wants to bring back and the matches they want to have.

One of the matches WWE was hoping to have is for The Rock to battle Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns in the main event of either Night 1 or Night 2 of WrestleMania 39, but the promotion was looking to finalize the main event plans by last January and it was believed that WWE legend The Rock had to give WWE an answer regarding his status for The Show Of Shows before February.

As previously reported, The Rock’s status for WWE WrestleMania 39 wasn’t set in stone by the deadline and he may still appear on the show in a different capacity, but he will not be competing because the WWE legend feels he doesn’t have enough time to get into the kind of shape he feels he needs to be in for the blockbuster matchup with Roman Reigns. It was also reported that the WWE has known for months that The Rock may not compete at WrestleMania 39.

Dave Meltzer noted on a recent edition of the Wrestling Observer Radio Program that The Rock has left the door open to compete in a match at next year’s WWE WrestleMania 40 as he believes Rock won’t be a part of this year’s WrestleMania 39 and that it’s not a swerve like some people believe just like Pat McAfee did at the Royal Rumble since it has already been made official that Roman Reigns will put his Undisputed WWE Universal Title on the line against Cody Rhodes on The Grandest Stage Of Them All.

This is what Dave Meltzer said:

“The same goes for Dwayne [The Rock]. Dwayne could be there in some way or fashion. There are people going, ‘Oh, don’t you think it’s a swerve they keep saying,’ it’s not a swerve. I’ve been told this for a while. There’s always the maybe it’s a secret like the Pat McAfee thing right? (Royal Rumble surprise return). Only a few people know. We’re past that point, Cody Rhodes won the Royal Rumble. He’s getting the championship match. It ain’t’ Dwayne anymore. Dwayne’s not wrestling anybody else unless it’s a three-second match….He did not feel that he had the time to get in the shape that he needed to be in to do a Wrestlemania-caliber main event and he left the door open for next year.”
