Trick Williams and Ilja Dragunov Claim Big NXT Victories at No Mercy, NXT Women’s Breakout Tournament Revealed

In a thrilling spectacle for pro-wrestling fans, the WWE NXT No Mercy event, hosted at the Mechanics Bank Arena in Bakersfield, California, presented jaw-dropping bouts and surprising championship shifts. Trick Williams and Ilja Dragunov emerged victorious, claiming the NXT North American Championship and NXT Championship respectively. Additionally, WWE unveiled the line-up for the NXT Women’s Breakout Tournament set to begin October 3rd.

Fans were on the edges of their seats as Trick Williams defied the odds against Dominik Mysterio in a lightning-paced contest. Disruption arose when referee Dragon Lee was inadvertently knocked out of the ring with a superkick intended for Williams. The chaos escalated as a misguided move from Mysterio laid out the second referee and seemingly placed the match in Williams’ favor. In a twist of fate, Mysterio’s attempt to tip the scales with his title used as a weapon backfired. A precision knee strike from Williams led to a stunning pinfall victory, and Williams was crowned the new NXT North American Champion.

In another thrilling showdown, Ilja Dragunov toppled Carmelo Hayes for the coveted NXT Championship. After a fierce back-and-forth exchange involving a superplex, a Codebreaker, and an HBomb strike, Dragunov landed a second H-Bomb off the middle for an almost decisive near-fall. Hayes, however, countered with a superkick. Taking the fight to the apron, Hayes seemingly gained the upper hand with a cutter off the apron onto the floor. An ill-advised highflying maneuver, however, was met with a devastating counter by Dragunov. A top rope Super HBomb secured Dragunov the pinfall, marking him as the new NXT Champion.

Braced for another whirlwind event, the WWE announced the full field for the 2023 NXT Women’s Breakout Tournament. Eager contenders Jakara Jackson, Karmen Petrovic, Lola Vice, Jaida Parker, Izzi Dame, Dani Palmer, Kelani Jordan, and Arianna Grace all gear up for the competition, set to kick off on October 3rd’s NXT show. With an already electric atmosphere, the NXT universe eagerly awaits this next step in women’s pro wrestling.

No doubt, these victories at NXT No Mercy will change the course of these wrestlers’ careers and the narrative in the pro-wrestling universe. It’s clear that more exhilarating plots and character arcs lie on the horizon.
