Two Former WWE Stars Could Return To The Company As Part Of NXT

Over the past few years, the WWE has only had a handful of tag teams that ran roughshod and dominated the entire roster like no other and one of those tag teams is none other than Authors Of Pain (A.K.A. AOP), which consists of Akam and Rezar. During their short stint with the WWE, they would become a 1-time WWE NXT Tag Team Champions as well as a 1-time WWE RAW Tag Team Champions and AOP would even win the 2016 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.

AOP’s big push in the company came to a screeching halt as Rezar would tear his triceps and be put on the sidelines, while Akam had been removed from television due to his tag team partner being injured, which would lead to the Authors of Pain being released by the WWE in 2020. Since Akam and Rezar’s WWE release, they have yet to compete in a ring, but they did attempt to launch their own promotion known as WES, although it never came into fruition.

According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select, months after it was reported earlier this year that a former WWE tag team could be on their way back to the company several sources told them that AOP have actually been under contract with the WWE since last year, although they have yet to confirm if there is any truth to that. Fightful Select also noted that they were told it was before Vince McMahon made his return as signings were put to a stop immediately following McMahon’s return, but Authors of Pain made it sure that Paul Ellering was heavily involved in their decision and that AOP had been on WWE’s internal list since May.

PWInsider.com then added that there has been a lot of talk over the last week about Paul Ellering and the Authors of Pain returning to the WWE as part of the NXT brand, possibly as early as next month.
