WWE Nixed NXT Segment After Jay Briscoe’s Tragic Passing

It was previously reported that Jay Briscoe (real name Jamin Pugh), one-half of the greatest tag team in the history of ROH and one-half of one of the greatest tag teams in pro wrestling, recently passed away at the age of 38 due to a car accident nearby his home in Laurel, Delaware.

The Shore News Beacon then revealed more details on the car accident that led to Jay Briscoe’s tragic passing and it was indicated it that took place at 16523 Laurel Rd, which is a number of minutes away from Jay Briscoe’s home and the first police responders on the scene stated that there were “multiple calls reporting as many as 4 patients trapped.” The report also mentioned that the initial responders arrived at 5:18PM local time and confirmed there was an “entrapment and Fire” at the scene as well as “Command advising 1 critical pediatric, 2nd serious patient. Evaluating two others.” There would then be an update at 5:41PM local time that said, “EMS advising 2 adult fatalities and 2 critical patients being transported at this time.”

A report from ABC affiliate WMDT then revealed that the crash left two dead, based on statements from the Delaware State Police, but no other details were provided about the other person who passed away. Several talents and personalities from different professional wrestling promotions posted a heartfelt message on their Twitters and other social media platforms, including WWE and the promotion even paid tribute by having Vic Joseph and WWE Hall of Famer Booker T make an announcement of Briscoe’s passing during their NXT broadcast.

Last Tuesday night’s episode of WWE NXT was supposed to feature a “funeral” segment from The New Day, but John Pollock of POSTWrestling.com announced on his Twitter that sources have said the segment was changed after it was revealed that Jay Briscoe tragically passed away.
