AEW Dynamite Tops Cable TV Ratings, Surpassing Real Housewives and NBA

3 Key Points

  • AEW Dynamite ranks as the #1 cable TV program in the 18-49 demographic.
  • Tony Khan appreciates fan support for AEW’s diverse wrestling talent.
  • Key matches on Dynamite included title defenses and a tribute to Jay Briscoe.

AEW Takes the Cable Lead

Tony Khan, the AEW President, announced through his Twitter account that AEW’s flagship show, “AEW Dynamite,” secured the top position on the cable chart for the 18-49 demographic on the evening of January 17. A graphic shared by Khan highlighted AEW’s achievement over other popular cable offerings. The much-coveted demographic saw “AEW Dynamite” attracting a viewership of 435,000, a significant number for the wrestling promotion.

“Dynamite” Dominates Wednesday Nights

Achieving a higher rating than “Real Housewives: Beverly Hills,” as well as ESPN’s NBA broadcast and other programs, Dynamite demonstrated its drawing power among the younger audience. Though it fell slightly behind “Real Housewives” in the 25-54 age group, Dynamite’s edge with younger viewers signals the wrestling show’s continued traction with a key audience segment.

High-Octane Matches Fuel Success

The episode in question featured high-stakes encounters, such as Christian Cage successfully defending the AEW TNT Championship against Dustin Rhodes. This dynamic card, along with the victory of Bullet Club Gold’s members and Samoa Joe’s first AEW World Championship defense against HOOK, exemplified the dramatic and competitive wrestling that fans tuned in to see. Further excitement came through tag team battles and individual contests, including Deonna Purrazzo’s submission win over Anna Jay.

Emotional Tribute on “Dynamite”

The episode was not without its poignant moments, with Mark Briscoe paying homage to his brother Jay on the anniversary of his passing. This touching commemoration resonated with the AEW community and added depth to an already memorable broadcast.

Tony Khan’s message not only celebrated the success but also thanked AEW’s passionate fanbase, teasing what’s to come with the promise of more action on “AEW Rampage” and “AEW Collision,” adding anticipation for the brand’s next broadcasts.
