Last week’s episode of AEW Dynamite, which was the promotion’s Homecoming special, was able to draw a total of 1.102 million viewers, while this past Wednesday night’s episode was able to draw a total of 979,000 viewers, according to a recent report from Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics.
This total is down 11.2% from last week’s Homecoming episode of Dynamite, which drew a 0.35 rating in the 18-49 key demographic. This 0.35 rating is down 24% from last week’s 0.46 rating in the key 18-49 demo. The 0.35 rating in the 18-49 key demo represents around 454,000 total viewers who tuned in last Wednesday to watch Dynamite from that demographic. This is down 23.44% from last week’s 593,000 total viewers in the 18-49 key demo.
Last Wednesday night’s episode of AEW Dynamite featured Darby Allin vs. Daniel Garcia, Matt Hardy and Private Party vs. Chuck Taylor, Wheeler Yuta and Orange Cassidy, IMPACT Wrestling World Tag Champions The Good Brothers (Doc Gallows and Karl Anderson) defending their titles against Dark Order (Evil Uno and Stu Grayson), The Elite (AEW World Champion Kenny Omega and AEW World Tag Team Champions Matt and Nick Jackson of The Young Bucks) vs. Dante Martin, Matt Sydal and Mike Sydal and Chris Jericho facing Wardlow in Chapter 4 of The 5 Labours Of Jericho Match, which was the main event.
The viewership number of this past Wednesday night’s episode of Dynamite, which marked the end of the 4-week streak AEW Dynamite averaged more than 1 million viewers per episode and which viewership drew the lowest number since the July 7th episode, which was the first show the promotion held back on the road as well as which key demo rating also drew the lowest number since the July 7th episode, and the third biggest week-to-week drop in the demographic for a Wednesday night airing this year, was up 24% from the same week in 2020, which, at the time, competed against NXT, while the 18-49 key demo rating was up 9.4% from the same week in 2020.
This past Wednesday night’s episode of Dynamite was the first episode since the July 21st show to not face any competition from the Olympics, but it did go head-to-head against the season premiere of The Challenge from MTV at 8PM ET, which topped the night with a 0.38 rating in the 18-49 demo and 660,000 total viewers.
