Backstage Details On AEW’s First-Ever Non-Televised Show

As previously reported, it was recently announced by AEW that they will be having its first-ever non-televised show on Friday, April 9th from Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, Florida, with a live Dynamite episode on Wednesday, prior to the event, which is on April 7th.

AEW then announced that the event will be called “The House Always Wins” and that a number of matches will be taking place on the show, including Mike and Matt Sydal facing Michael Nakazawa and AEW World Champion Kenny Omega in the main event. AEW TNT Champion Darby Allin will also be defending his title against an opponent yet to be named.

This show is clearly taking place during WWE’s WrestleMania 37 weekend and it gives the fans a chance to watch a live wrestling event on that day as WWE’s SmackDown will reportedly be taped.

Dave Meltzer mentioned on a recent edition of the Wrestling Observer Radio Program that obviously the idea is that it is WrestleMania week and there is no show on Friday night because SmackDown will be taped ahead of time, and even if there will be a show, fans aren’t allowed in any way.

Meltzer also said there is going to be all these fans, in theory, and it’s a Friday night, that’s the idea, but the show is in Jacksonville and Jacksonville is about 3 and half hours from Tampa, which is not that close at all.

This is what Dave Meltzer said:

“I mean obviously the idea is that it’s WrestleMania week and Jacksonville is about 3 and half hours from Tampa. It’s not that close, but the idea is that there is no Friday night show because SmackDown is being taped ahead of time, and even if it was, fans aren’t allowed in anyway. The idea is that there are going to be all these fans, in theory, and it’s a Friday night, that’s the idea.”

“They’re gonna try a house show and I guess the idea is to give you a hell of a show. I don’t know who is wrestling yet. Part of it is also they have so many people there who have not worked in front of fans very often, some of the newer people. A lot of the people who work on the Monday and Tuesday show, there is no fans.”

More updates will be provided as it becomes available.
