Backstage News On Kenny Omega’s IMPACT World Title Reign

At IMPACT Wrestling’s Rebellion PPV Event this past April, AEW World Champion Kenny Omega, who is the AAA Mega Champion as well, won the IMPACT World Title when he defeated Rich Swann. Omega becoming the IMPACT World Champion has reportedly been in the works prior to him even winning the championship. On a recent edition of the Wrestling Observer Radio Program, it was indicated that AEW and IMPACT talked about what their plans will be moving forward in regards to the IMPACT World Title even before it was executed.

The discussions between AEW and IMPACT include Omega becoming the IMPACT World Champion, what will be comprised of Omega’s title reign, which AEW and IMPACT Wrestling wrestlers would be appearing on what shows and when IMPACT Wrestling will get their World Title back. These details and specifics are just some of the factors included and agreed upon as part of the deal ahead of time.

Since Omega won the IMPACT World Title from Rich Swann, he has only defended it once when he retained the IMPACT World Title against Moose at IMPACT’s Against All Odds Event last June 12th. Omega will be defending his IMPACT World Title next against Sami Callihan at the Slammiversary PPV on July 17th.

This Saturday on Dynamite, Kenny Omega is set to defend his AEW World Title against Jungle Boy. Kenny Omega will then defend his AAA Mega Championship against Andrade at the AAA TripleMania XXIX Event on Saturday, August 14th in Mexico City. There is no word yet on if the working relationship between AEW and IMPACT Wrestling will continue once Omega loses the IMPACT World Title, but updates will be given once it becomes available.
