Cody Rhodes Reveals Red Velvet Has Signed With AEW

AEW Executive Vice President “The American Nightmare” Cody recently took to his Twitter and announced that Red Velvet is now “ALL ELITE” as AEW President Tony Khan saw what over a million people saw that night when Red Velvet stepped up in a huge way partnering up with him against NBA legend Shaq and AEW Women’s Star Jade Cargill during the Crossroads episode of Dynamite and upgraded her contract.

Red Velvet made her official in-ring debut for AEW on an episode of Dark back in June 2020, where she teamed up with Kenzie Paige in a losing effort against Brandi Rhodes and Allie. Velvet’s AEW Dynamite debut then took place on June 24th of last year, when she lost a non-title match to AEW Women’s World Champion Hikaru Shida. Despite Cody and herself losing to Shaq and Cargill on an episode of Dynamite, Velvet made the headlines by stepping up in a big way and really proving herself, which is the reason why AEW President and CEO Tony Khan signed her to a contract with the company.

Following her match teaming up with Cody against Shaq and Cargill, Velvet defeated Dani Jordyn on the premiere episode of Dark: Elevation and then teamed with Big Swole for a win over Madi Wrenkowski and Leva Bates on the second episode of Dark: Elevation.

There is no word yet on what the terms of Velvet’s “upgraded contract” are, but it is likely that she was under some sort of per-match or per-appearance agreement until now. Velvet is engaged to WWE Hall of Famer Gerald Brisco’s son, Wes Brisco.
