Unless you missed last night’s episode of AEW Dynamite, then you know that Kyle O’Reilly finally debuted for AEW after months of being rumored to. I would say ‘I told you so,’ dear readers, but…well, I guess I just did.
All kidding aside though, I’m sure many of you were expecting him to show up. It was sort of written in the stars, as they say, and the hints were just a tad too obvious, as we reported.
O’Reilly seemed very excited to be joining in with AEW, as he made some statements on Twitter to that effect. He said:
“Life is crazy and I’m very grateful that my professional wrestling abilities have taken me to a new frontier in which to explore my ass-kicking ways. Proud to be a part of (AEW) and thanks to (Tony Khan) for the opportunity. If you’re a fan of mine from elsewhere I hope you continue to support me. If you’re new to KOR prepare to see a man that pours his f’n soul into that ring every night and has an unquenchable thirst for cans of whoop ass. Also, reDRagon is back!!!’’

On the possibility of Johnny Gargano joining his co-NXT expat and even former friends and rivals, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer said the following:
“As more time goes on, I have this feeling that Gargano will debut in Cleveland. That would be the right night to do it, right? It’s I think maybe late [January], maybe [January] 26th. I don’t know 100% that he’s going, but he’s talking about wanting to wrestle Kenny Omega. It’s things he’s said both publicly and privately. I know he’s heavily considering it.”

Gargano is quite obviously a perfect fit for AEW—especially now. He has hinted to it, as Meltzer states in his quote on the subject, and Cleveland sounds like the place for him to premiere, but of course at this time, this is all merely just conjecture and may not come to fruition so soon, as we learned with the hype over the former Bray Wyatt and his rumored start with the company. Yet, I would have to agree with Dave Meltzer for sure, and this just seems different and his debut seems likely if not imminent for some reason.
Time will of course tell, though.
O’Reilly is set to take to the AEW ring for the first time in an official capacity at New Year’s Smash, he Bobby Fish and Adam Cole going up against Orange Cassidy & Best Friends. This was of course was alluded to during last night’s segment when O’Reilly first appeared, helping out Cole in his match against Cassidy. It’s set to occur next week.
O’Reilly, a Canadian from Delta, British Columbia, started in the business back in 2005. The 34 year old martial artist has wrestled for many promotions including: ROH, PWG, NJPW, quite obviously NXT, and Dragon Gate, among others.
The name ‘reDRagon’ that O’Reilly mentions in his quote above, refers to the tag team name he and Bobby Fish wrestled under during their time in ROH and other stops along the way of their very highly decorated pro wrestling careers. Their team was a massive fan favorite.
The possibilities for this tag team and their place on the AEW roster with Adam Cole right now are indeed endless and there are many ways for the trio to go…perhaps even a fourth member? Could it be Gargano. It would make sense; the four of them could assemble a team—take on the AEW Elite—a la Outsiders vs. WCW.
Who knows? The sky is the limit for sure. But we are definitely excited to see what comes next for this incredible athlete and this incredible group of men.
