Matt Jackson Talks Working Through An Ankle Injury

It was previously reported that Matt Jackson of the Young Bucks sustained a partially torn MCL and a thinning of the ACL, which can also be considered as a slight tear. It was noted that Jackson’s injury is legitimate and that he has been rehabbing it for months now.

Matt Jackson’s injury played into his storyline and at one point the future of his and his brother’s match at AEW Full Gear against FTR was up in the air, but he did compete at Full Gear and has been competing with his injury for quite some time now.

The Young Bucks defeated FTR at this past Saturday’s Full Gear to become the new AEW World Tag Team Champions and following the PPV, they took part in a Full Gear media scrum, where Matt Jackson talked about working through his injury and how it is legitimate.

This is what Matt Jackson said:

“It’s a very real injury that I’ve been dealing with, and it’s been a rough year for me.”

Matt Jackson’s injury took place on the July 22nd episode of AEW Dynamite during the Falls Count Anywhere Match between The Young Bucks and The Butcher and The Blade. He got injured towards the end of the match when The Young Bucks hit FTR with flying elbow drops from the top of the stage onto their opponents down below, who were laying on top of tables. It was then noted that the table leg jammed up Matt Jackson’s knee.

Matt Jackson first thought that he fractured his fibula or something, but Matt’s wife told Dr. Sampson to get him an MRI to see what was really going on and when he realized that he was hobbling, then he knew that it was his MCL.

This is what Matt Jackson said:

“Turns out it wasn’t my fibula, but actually my soft tissue and it was the back of my knee. It was my MCL. It was diagnosed that after looking at the MRI, I had a slight tear.”

Matt Jackson’s ACL injury is believed to be something he has been dealing with a decade or longer, while is MCL injury has only been there for months. According to Matt, he has been rehabbing his injury and taping it before every match. He also said that his match at Full Gear was his ninth match with the injury and he has honestly been feeling pretty good with all things considered. He also said that their medical staff is amazing and that they will never send him out there if they weren’t confident with him and how he felt.

This is what Matt Jackson said:

“I’ve been rehabbing, I’ve been taping it before every match. This was my ninth match, I believe, with the injury and honestly, I felt pretty good with all things considered. Our medical staff is amazing, they would never send me out there if they weren’t confident with me and how I felt.”
