Reason Why Santana Missed Last Wednesday’s Dynamite Episode

The main event of last week’s Dynamite episode saw the Inner Circle (Chris Jericho, Jake Hager, Sammy Guevara, Santana and Ortiz) go up against the Pinnacle (MJF, FTR, Wardlow and Shawn Spears) in a huge Blood And Guts Match, which saw the Pinnacle come out of victorious.

This past Wednesday’s episode of Dynamite then saw the continuation of the Inner Circle and the Pinnacle’s feud when the Pinnacle took part in a coronation segment, which was interrupted by the Inner Circle.

The Inner Circle then doused the Pinnacle with A Little Bit of the Bubbly to get on the nerves of the Pinnacle and to force a rematch between the two factions. This would then result in a rematch between both factions being made official, but MJF issuing a challenge to their rivals for a Stadium Stampede Match, and if the Inner Circle were to lose, then they must go their separate ways for good.

In this entire segment as well as on the show itself, Santana was noticeably missing and it was noted by Ortiz earlier on the show when cutting a promo that Santana was placed in jail because MJF had him arrested for using a fork in the Blood And Guts Match on last week’s show.

Dave Meltzer revealed on a recent edition of the Wrestling Observer Radio Program that the real reason for Santana missing AEW’s Dynamite this past Wednesday is he is currently sick and that AEW is simply taking precautions due to the pandemic. Meltzer also noted when there is someone who gets sick right now, no risk will be taken unlike two years ago.

This is what Dave Meltzer said:

“The actual thing is that Santana was sick. When someone is sick right now… I mean two years ago he’d probably be there, but you don’t take risks now. So, that’s what happened.”

It was also mentioned that not only is Santana sick, but Jericho revealed on his podcast that Santana is in a pretty rough shape as he “messed up his back” during the Blood And Guts Match after receiving a bump between the apron and the cage.

The Stadium Stampede Match, which will be the second in company history, hasn’t been made official as of yet, but the match is likely to be made official for Double Or Nothing on Sunday, May 30th.
