AEW President and CEO Tony Khan has teased for a few weeks that a big star is set to join the company soon and this star is one of the world’s best wrestlers who is known and respected by virtually every AEW fan and this person would be at Full Gear to sign their contract. This past Saturday night’s Full Gear PPV saw “The Aerial Assassin” Will Ospreay be announced as the big signing for the company after making a number of appearances for AEW in the past, but not as an official member of the roster as he is still under contract with NJPW.
Ospreay’s contract with NJPW will only expire in early 2024, but the company has given their blessing for The Aerial Assassin to talk with other promotions before his deal is up. Ospreay is considered as one of, if not the best wrestler in the world and WWE even had a significant interest in bringing him in before the signing was announced. Ospreay, who has won several championships in every promotion he has competed in, last wrestled for AEW at their WrestleDream PPV Event, where he teamed with Konosuke Takeshita and Sammy Guevara to face “The Ocho” Chris Jericho, Kenny Omega and Kota Ibushi.
