Ibushi Becomes New IWGP HW Champion At WK15, Omega Comments

Night one of NJPW’s Wrestle Kingdom 15 Event saw Kota Ibushi defeat Tetsuya Naito to become a double champion: the brand-new IWGP Heavyweight Champion as well as the IWGP Intercontinental Champion. Kota Ibushi would pick up the huge win with his signature KAMI-GOYE finisher. The moment was reportedly so shocking that Ibushi tried to pin Naito twice.

Immediately following the match, Tetsuya Naito would proudly hand over both titles to Ibushi, marking the first time that Ibushi has ever been IWGP Heavyweight Champion. AEW World Champion and a longtime tag partner of Ibushi’s Kenny Omega would later take to Twitter and write in Japanese, “It’s finally. Congrats.”
