There have been reports that people close to Punk suggested the former AEW and WWE World Champion has caught the wrestling bug yet again and with WWE Hall of Famer “Stone Cold” Steve Austin being offered to compete in a match at next year’s WrestleMania 39, it has been speculated that WWE will try to get CM Punk to return for a match with The Texas Rattlesnake.
Dave Meltzer reported on a recent edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that there is smoke to the fire regarding WWE Hall of Famer Stone Cold’s return to in-ring action at WWE WrestleMania 39 and it is something that is already in the discussion phase. Meltzer also noted that ideas that are being discussed internally are being kept a secret and Austin could either work with a younger Superstar as he did with Kevin Owens at WWE WrestleMania 38 to help carry the match and elevate the younger talent or with a bigger Superstar such as Brock Lesnar, John Cena or CM Punk.
In regards to Punk, he’s still under contract with All Elite Wrestling and until he has been released from the promotion, it’s legally impossible for WWE to make the match between Punk and Austin, but if the match does end up being made, it has been speculated that WWE could have Austin vs. Punk be night one’s main event and Roman Reigns vs. The Rock as night two’s main event. Meltzer then noted that WWE has followed everything that happened with Punk in AEW and when he was asked about Punk’s possibility in WWE, it appears from a creative team standpoint it is not positive, but at the end of the day, the decision will be made by Triple H, Stephanie McMahon and Nick Khan.
