Backstage News On Which Match Could Headline WWE WrestleMania Night 1

WWE will be holding their WrestleMania 39 Premium Live Event on Saturday, April 1 and Sunday, April 2 from SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California and the card for The Showcase Of The Immortals is starting to take shape with three massive matchups already confirmed and that is “The American Nightmare” Cody Rhodes challenging current Undisputed WWE Universal Champion “The Head Of The Table” Roman Reigns for his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship, WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair putting her WWE SmackDown Women’s Title on the line against Rhea Ripley and current WWE RAW Women’s Champion “The EST Of WWE” Bianca Belair defending her WWE RAW Women’s Title against Asuka.

Based on the other storylines taking place on WWE TV, other matches expected to take place at April’s WrestleMania 39 are Brock Lesnar taking on Omos in Singles action, Bobby Lashley facing Bray Wyatt in Singles action, Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler challenging WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Dakota Kai and IYO SKY of Damage CTRL for their WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships and Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn challenging Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions The Usos for their Undisputed WWE Tag Team Titles.

Current WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair has been pushing for her WWE SmackDown Women’s Title Match against Rhea Ripley at WrestleMania 39 to headline the first night of The Showcase Of The Immortals, while it’s believed that the Cody Rhodes vs. Roman Reigns Matchup will headline the second night of the event.

Dave Meltzer noted on a recent edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Reigns vs. Rhodes is expected to headline the second night, while Charlotte Flair vs. Rhea Ripley is the favorite to main-event the first night even though a decision hasn’t been made yet, but if there will be an Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship Match, then that would be the other favorite to main-event the first night.

This is what Dave Meltzer said:

“Reigns vs. Rhodes is expected to headline the second night. There is no decision on the main event past an internal feeling that Charlotte Flair vs. Rhea Ripley right now is the favorite. There is a push feeling for sponsors and political reasons after men main evented both nights last year it would be good for a women’s match to headline and the feeling Flair vs. Ripley is stronger than Bianca Belair vs. Asuka for the spot. If there is Usos vs. Zayn & Kevin Owens, one would think that would be the other favorite.”
