Santos Escobar Secures Victory and LA Knight Shines in SmackDown Highlights

WWE’s latest SmackDown tapings delivered a thrilling array of matches and segments in Green Bay, Wisconsin, featuring critical developments heading into the Royal Rumble 2024.

At the taped event for the December 22nd episode, a high-stakes United States Championship #1 Contender Tournament was a central focus, with Santos Escobar clashing with Bobby Lashley in a Semifinal Round match. In a shocking twist, NXT alumni Angel Garza and Humberto Carrillo re-emerged on the main roster, aiding Escobar in securing a significant victory over Lashley.

Another championship was on the line as Dragon Lee successfully defended the NXT North American Championship against Butch, keeping his grasp on the coveted title.

The evening also saw AJ Styles cutting an intense, all-black attire in-ring promo. Styles expressed his apathy towards Randy Orton and LA Knight, instead setting his sights on Roman Reigns’ Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. His bold claim drew interruptions from Orton and Knight. However, SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis swiftly took control of the situation, orchestrating a triple threat match at the New Year’s Revolution special episode of SmackDown, with the winner earning a title shot against Reigns at Royal Rumble 2024.

Furthermore, an Eight-Woman Tag Team match saw Bianca Belair, Shotzi, Zelina Vega, and Michin emerge victorious against Damage CTRL’s formidable lineup featuring Bayley, Asuka, Kairi Sane, and IYO SKY. During this high-octane encounter, the audience witnessed Isla Dawn and Alba Fyre launching a surprising assault on Sane.

The second United States Championship #1 Contender Tournament Semifinal Round match showcased Kevin Owens going head-to-head with Carmelo Hayes, with Owens coming out on top.

The night’s proceedings culminated in a bout between AJ Styles and Solo Sikoa, with the match spiraling into disarray after Roman Reigns interfered, resulting in a disqualification. This incited a heated brawl involving The Bloodline, Styles, Orton, and Knight. As chaos ensued, it was LA Knight who ultimately stood tall, capping off the show with a defiant display of resilience.
