Over the years, WWE has brought back their old PPV themes such as No Mercy, Halloween Havoc and Great American Bash for their NXT brand and now the company is looking to bring back another old PPV theme, but this time it will be for their SmackDown brand.
As previously reported, the WWE will be giving the wrestlers, staff and crew the entire week off next week due to the holiday season and that is the reason why they taped next week’s episode of SmackDown after last Friday’s show from the Resch Center in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
During this past Friday night’s TV Tapings, a segment took place between AJ Styles, “The Viper” Randy Orton and LA Knight, where they all tried to make their case to challenge Roman Reigns for his title. A blockbuster Triple Threat Match was then booked between these three top Superstars for the December 29th episode of SmackDown, which is dubbed as the New Year’s Revolution episode of the blue brand and the winner of this matchup would then face Roman Reigns for his Undisputed WWE Universal Title at the 2024 WWE Royal Rumble Event.
WWE held three New Year’s Revolution Events from 2005-2007, the first of which was headlined by Randy Orton, WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H, Batista, Chris Jericho, Chris Benoit and WWE Hall of Famer “The Rated R Superstar” Edge battling each other in an Elimination Chamber Match for the vacant World Heavyweight Championship with WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels as the special guest referee.
16-time World Champion John Cena then defended the WWE Title against Umaga in the third and final WWE Elimination Chamber Event.
