AEW Make Plans To Bring Back Former Women’s Champion

Riho‘s last match in AEW was on the 18th of March when she competed in a fatal 4-way match with Hikaru Shida, Kris Statlander, and Penelope Ford. The Former AEW Women’s Champion had spent some time working for Stardom but their working relationship has recently come to an end.

In the latest edition of the Wrestling observer newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that AEW is currently trying to bring Riho back and her return could happen as early as next month.

If AEW does sign Riho they will face some quarantine related issues. Traveling between the USA and Japan during these times can bring a significant amount of problems and every time she enters the USA she will be subject to a two-week quarantine that can have a big impact on how AEW can use her for the foreseeable future.

Dave Meltzer when speaking of her potential return said that.

“It makes sense her return would be for the women’s tournament.” Of course, this tournament will crown a new #1 contender for the AEW Women’s Title that is slated to start soon.

Riho holds a special place in AEW history as she beat Nyla Rose to become the AEW Women’s Champion on the premiere episode of AEW Dynamite on TNT in October 2019.
