Last night All Elite Wrestling revealed a new AEW TNT championship belt when Darby Allin walked to the ring with this title for his weigh-in with Brian Cage. The title is actually very similar to its previous design, the only discernable difference being that the strap is now black as opposed to red.
For those not in the know, the previous version of this championship was retired last week to honor the memory of Brodie Lee. In an incredibly emotional segment, Huber’s wrestling boots were placed in the middle of the ring while Tony Khan handed the TNT title to Brodie Jr. AEW have received wide praise for how they paid tribute to the wrestler who died tragically a few weeks ago.
Tony Schiavone then confirmed on the post-show podcast that the previous belt now belonged to -1. This was suspected to be the case after last week’s show but many fans were happy nonetheless to hear this confirmation.
“Little Brodie, -1 if you will, is always going to have that TNT belt. We’ll come up with a new belt. That’ll be his.”
The way AEW has handled this tragedy has been nothing short of marvelous and even though nothing good can come from this it has been heartwarming to see the entire industry come together to acknowledge what a great man Brodie Lee appeared to be.
The dropping of a belt and the knowledge that his son will keep it with him forever as a tribute to his dad should warm the hearts of many who like all of us try to make sense of such a tragedy.
