WWE Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon recently appeared as a guest on The Bill Simmons podcast to hype and promote this weekend’s WWE WrestleMania 37 Event. During the podcast, Stephanie McMahon also talked about WWE’s brand-new competition, AEW, and if it’s good for the WWE to have a competitor. She said having a competitor, it always makes you and it’s not that they never had a competitor. She also said they just look at everything as competitive.
Stephanie then said that in terms of a direct wrestling competitor, she thinks that hopefully this is going to make them a better company and it’s going to make them re-examine everything that they do and do it to the best of their capability. Stephanie McMahon then said she thinks that it’s always a good thing and it can make them better and stronger.
This is what Stephanie McMahon said:
“I think having to a competitor, it always makes you — it’s not that we never had a competitor. We just look at everything as competitive.” “Anything that’s competing for eyeballs and attention is a competitor. We’re all competing against each other, but in terms of a direct wrestling competitor, I think hopefully, it’s going to make you a better company. It’s going to make you re-examine everything that you do and do it to the best of your capability. “I think that it’s always a good thing. It can make you better and stronger.”
Stephanie McMahon then talked about Jon Moxley leaving the WWE for AEW and he has gone on to become a much bigger star and if that is something the company regrets and thinks about. Stephanie said in his particular case, he was leaving anyway, and she does believe that it was a mutual decision. Stephanie McMahon also said they learned a lot from the Monday Night Wars and how talents were getting stripped away and showing up on WCW.
The WWE Chief Brand Officer also said that this time they’ll see where it all shakes out, but they’re constantly talking about how they can be better and what they can do better because they always want to be the best company that they can be for their fans, for their shareholders, for employees and for their talent and they want to be the best.
This is what Stephanie McMahon said:
“In his particular case, he was leaving anyway, and I do believe that was a mutual decision. Though, I wasn’t a part of those conversations.” “His case is a little bit different, but I remember back when it was WCW and the Monday Night Wars and our talent were getting stripped away and showing up on their show. I think it taught us a lot about business. Handshake deals don’t necessarily matter at the end of the day. You need to have contracts. You need to do business differently.”
“I think those were some of the key learnings from that time. From this time, we’ll see where it all shakes out, but yes, we’re constantly talking about how we can be better and what we can do better because we always want to be the best company that we can be for our fans, for our shareholders, for employees [and] for our talent. We want to be the best.”
