Wardlow Praises MJF On Match Psychology, Talks Chris Jericho

One of All Elite Wrestling’s most agile and athletic big men in Wardlow, who serves as the on-screen manager and bodyguard of MJF, recently appeared as a guest on Busted Open Radio to talk about when he knew pro wrestling is what he wanted to do with his life, what his thoughts are on Chris Jericho, and MJF being big on the psychology of putting together a match and storytelling, which is what makes him so successful at such a young age.

Below are the highlights:

On when he knew pro wrestling is what he wanted to do with his life:

“At some point in elementary school. I was very, very young…I’ve known this is what I wanted since I was a child, since I can remember.”

On what his thoughts are on Chris Jericho:

“It’s truly surreal. There are moments when we come backstage from that and I’m on the same type of a high when I get done having a match just being in a segment with Jericho because obviously, you watched him through the years. He’s done absolutely everything in the business. He’s a true legend.

He’s somebody I’ve watched for years. So, to be able to not only share a ring with him, but to be associated in the same faction as him, is just truly mind-blowing. Sometimes I still have to pinch myself to make sure this is all real. He’s great, obviously, as a learning tree to sit under. He’s a very nice guy and a very cool dude. He taught me a lot and it’s been so much fun working with those guys.”

On MJF being big on the psychology of putting together a match and storytelling, which is what makes him so successful at such a young age:

“It depends on who you’re working with. Obviously, as you guys know, I haven’t had a great amount of matches, so the ones I have been involved with, there’s been some individuals where it’s just like, we got this spot, we got this spot, we got this spot. Then there’s some guys who really take their time and ponder and really think about things and how to make sense.

Adam Page was one that I was really impressed by the way he just dissected things and wanted everything to just make sense and click. I really appreciated that. That’s one thing about Max (MJF). Max is big on psychology and storytelling and I’ve witnessed Max come into situations where people are talking about hitting spot after spot after spot and Max comes in and is like, ‘Guys, that makes no sense.’

So, one thing about Max, and obviously you guys know, we all know, is he gets it and that’s why he is so successful at such a young age. I do appreciate when Max comes in and says let’s tell a story. Let’s make this make sense.”
