Despite now working part-time for WWE, John Cena remains a popular figure among fans and is likely to make an appearance now and then. While he has been a frequent presence on the big stages, the 16-time World Champion may not be present at WrestleMania next year.
On a recent episode of the Wrestling Observer, a question about Cena’s possible presence at WrestleMania next year was raised. Cena is likely to miss it because he will be filming “Ricky Stanicky,” his upcoming comedy film with Zac Efron, in Australia in February and March of next year.
These circumstances would make it extremely difficult for the Cenation’s leader to take time off to perform at Mania, which is scheduled for April 1 and 2, 2023. If Cena is to perform on The Grandest Stage of All, he must be absent from the build-up until the show itself.
However, two major stars were absent from the build but present for their matches at WrestleMania this year: Cody Rhodes and Stone Cold Steve Austin. As a result, a WrestleMania appearance for John Cena isn’t completely out of the question.
Because of John Cena’s commitment to Hollywood, the former WWE Champion is no longer a full-time wrestler for the company. His most recent appearance was on a one-off episode of RAW on June 27. The anniversary marked John Cena’s 20th year in WWE.
Cena appeared on stage to thank the fans for their support throughout his career, and he was even featured in some backstage segments. A feud with Austin Theory was heavily promoted in the run-up to Cena’s return, but it never materialized. Cena has not yet returned to WWE.
His most recent televised in-ring appearance was against Roman Reigns at WWE SummerSlam last year, as part of the ‘Summer of Cena’ storyline. He is also scheduled to appear on the December 30th episode of SmackDown.
While the odds appear bleak, it remains to be seen whether Cena will make his long-awaited return to WWE at WrestleMania. Regardless, whatever Cena does next, he will have all eyes on him. It would be interesting to see how things play out.
